Next Tuesday, June 15th, WPKN staff will vote on a constitutional amendment that would allow paid commercial underwriting announcements on the air. WPKN has avoided this for the 20 years it has been listener supported. Underwriting announcements will alter the sound of WPKN, and not for the better. In addition to the phony commercials run during programming, there will be increasing pressure to alter the schedule so that the right kind of programs are at the right times for the corporate sponsor's advertising.
You can help stop this before it starts. Whenever you're listening to WPKN, call the programmer who's on the air and ask him or her to vote NO on the constitutional amendment. The phone number is 203-331-9756.
