One Great Radio Station, Two Great Benefit Concerts

We hope you can attend one or both of our upcoming WPKN Benefit Concerts: Saturday’s Summer Solstice Brazilian concert at the beautiful Unitarian Church at 10 Lyons Plain Road in Westport with some amazing Brazilian jazz & samba from the multi-piece band Sambeleza. $30 benefit tickets are at the door and also at voicescafe.org. Doors open at 7:30pm with the show at 8pm. Musicians include Isabella Mendes, piano/vocals; Joe Carter, guitar; Jeff Fuller, bass/vocals and guest artists Adriano Santos, drums; Ali Ryerson, flute and Ze' Mauricio, percussion. We thank Fountainhead Wines/Fat Cat Pie in Norwalk, CT for their support.

Then on Thursday, June 26th it’s the Fairfield Theater Company where we co-present together with the FTC a rare CT appearance by The Grand Slambovians— who pioneered alt-folk/americana staying on the fringe of the music industry. Think David Gilmore meets Duane Allman meets David Bowie! The opener is the personable, heavily acoustic amped Ed Hamell who goes by the name Hamell on Trial. This is a benefit for both of our non-profits. Tickets are online at fairfieldtheatre.org or via the box office at 203-259-1036.

All That Jazz December 10-13 on WPKN

Dear Friends and Fans,

Next week WPKN will hold a 72-hour jazz marathon fund drive. We'll have 24 programmers playing lots of America's premiere art form, and our premiums will include jazz recordings and club tickets. I'll be hosting the Monday night slot 9-midnight.

Here's where you come in. If you've ever heard our fundraising, you know we need phone helpers. If you're a fan of my program, I'd love for you to come down and answer phones during my shift. Please PM me here on Facebook, and also call WPKN to sign up. The number is 203-331-9756.

Remember, we are a listener-supported community station. Even if you can't make it down to help on the phones, I hope you'll call with your pledge of support, and maybe take away one of our hip and groovadelic premium items.

Thanks and happy listening,

Dave

Fall Pledge Drive

Yes, it's that time of year when we at WPKN ask you the listener to help us in our mission to broadcast sounds and ideas not readily heard elsewhere.

Our goal is 89.5 thousand dollars, and we're going to keep at it until we reach the goal. At our average pace of $2,700/day, we're looking at about 33 days. Your generosity makes it possible for us to do Radio Vibes, the Sunday Brunch Concert series, and all the other groovadelic programming you enjoy throughout the year. Consider the following incentives:
