A few days ago I blogged about
Aura Bogado's tantrum on the GRC mailing list. Her farewell rant set off a flurry of replies. None states the mission of the left better than this comment from Richard Phelps, a member of Pacifica's
KPFA Local Station Board:
We must keep our focus on our work in radio and elsewhere to educate and activate people to unite against the systems that create and perpetuate the ISMs that are oppressive. There is clearly an interrelationship between changing ourselves and changing the world. IMHO both are necessary and I think the struggle for the change of systems is the best place to change ourselves as we reject the societal teachings we are indoctrinated with as we grow up and live in this society. I have come to see individualism as the main impediment in our society. The Adam Smith mentality. "Me" before "we" and it is destroying our planet and us. I see it destroying Pacifica where I am deeply involved> "Turf" before "Mission."
Woe to us if we let people like this accomplish their goal. Who is going to implement and enforce the elimination of individualism? How will this be accomplished? How many have to die or be imprisoned for it to happen?
If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - forever.
