New Sunday Brunch Concert dates announced!

I'm pleased to announce two dates in March, including a return to the Kasbah in New Haven.

March 4th – Avi Wisnia
Singer/Songwriter Avi Wisnia presents an eclectic mix of refreshingly original songs, finding inspiration in classic Brazilian bossa nova, acoustic American folk, 1950’s west-coast jazz, and contemporary pop. A wordsmith as well as a composer and performer, Avi’s clever lyrics give a knowing nod to those that came before, while his smooth vocals and deft piano skills assure you that this is truly something new.

This will be an intimate "living room" performance in the cozy confines of the Kasbah Garden Cafe, 105 Howe Street in New Haven. The music begins at 1 p.m. SHARP! Admission is free. We will pass the hat for a free-will offering. Come early, order a snack, and enjoy the music. For directions, call 203-777-5053.

March 18th – Ravalias
Long Island trio Ravalias will make the trip across the pond to grace our studios on Sunday, March 18th at 1:00 p.m. Ravalias is Hannah Sumner - voice, Colin Kasprowicz - bass, and Ryan Broderick - drumkit. Jazz Grammy winners

As far as I'm concerned, the big TV show is an industry handjob, but I pay some attention to what the Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences does with the jazz awards. Here's some of what's happened today:

  • Best Improvised Jazz Solo: Chick Corea, 500 Miles High, Forever (Corea, Clarke & White)
  • Best Jazz Instrumental Album: Chick Corea, Forever (Corea, Clarke & White)
  • Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album: Christian McBride, The Good Feeling

A new voice in the Mets radio booth

Inside Radio reports
CBS Radio sports WFAN, New York (660) recruits Josh Lewin from middays at sports sister “105.3 The Fan” KRLD-FM, Dallas to become part of the New York Mets broadcast team. He succeeds Wayne Hagin, who’d worked in the booth for the past three seasons. Lewin previously was a television announcer for the Texas Rangers from 2002-2010. He’s expected to have an on-air role at WFAN beyond Mets games.
I'm not sure how Josh will work with Howie Rose, but fans who didn't enjoy hearing Wayne Hagin will likely embrace the change. Let's hope they don't call it the "Peerless Boiler Broadcast Booth" this season.
