The Ed Palermo Big Band live!

Ed Palermo on NPR's Weekend Edition.
The arrival of Take Your Clothes Off When You Dance, the Big Band's latest CD, prompted a recent visit by Palermo and more than a dozen band members to NPR's Studio 4A for a performance -- and a conversation with Andrea Seabrook.
There are some tasty audio tracks here.

Update: Ed will be on WPKN with Tom Makucevich this Thursday, October 19 at 2:00 p.m.

"Speaking truth to power" = heckling

Let's see...elite, top-shelf Ivy college hosts a controversial speaker (invited by a student group). People who oppose the speaker heckle, interrupt, and rush the stage. End of [civilized] discussion.

The best part is the self-serving statement from the hecklers:
We celebrate free speech: for that reason we allowed the Minutemen to speak, and for that same reason we peacefully occupied the stage and spoke ourselves. Our peaceful protest was violently attacked by members of the College Republicans and their supporters, who are the very same people who invited the Minutemen to our campus in the first place. The Minutemen are not a legitimate voice in the debate on immigration. They are a racist, armed militia who have declared open hunting season on immigrants, causing countless hate crimes and over 3000 deaths on the border. Why should exploitative corporations have free passes between nations, but individual people not? No human being is illegal.
Huh? Slowly now, line by line:

We celebrate free speech: for that reason we allowed the Minutemen to speak, and for that same reason we peacefully occupied the stage and spoke ourselves.
No, you rushed the stage, interruped the speaker and took over. That's not allwoing them to speak.

Our peaceful protest was violently attacked by members of the College Republicans and their supporters,
As opposed to your own act of violence, which you fail to see as such.

The Minutemen are not a legitimate voice in the debate on immigration.
"I disagree; therefore they have no right to speak."
They are a racist, armed militia who have declared open hunting season on immigrants, causing countless hate crimes and over 3000 deaths on the border.
Sources, please? It's easy to say someone has caused "countless" hate crimes when you don't have to count them. Don't forget to provide your sources tying them to over 3000 deaths.

Why should exploitative corporations have free passes between nations, but individual people not?
That's a red herring. You were discussing your behavior before you changed the subject.

No human being is illegal.
Human beings are not illegal, but sometimes their actions are. Congratulations. You hit all the talking points and slogans. You shut down speech that you found objectionable. G-d help us all if you come into power. Now go read The Gulag Archipelago.
