What I learned between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m.

  1. Audrey only has one line, but gets a lot of mileage out of it.
  2. When in doubt, or new on the job, set up a perimeter.
  3. Daniels still has no f'n neck!
  4. Bad news travels fast.
  5. Damn! A sex scene in the middle of all this chaos.
  6. Cisco Systems is a product-placement sponsor.
  7. President Subaru knows all.
  8. There IS a mole!
  9. And he's sleeping with StrangeVeep's hootchie mama!
  10. Milo always has a fresh t-shirt.
  11. Oh yeah, Jack. They'll take care of her. We all know what happens when you get into the CTU clinic.
  12. Tom Caged Weasel looks uncomfortable.
  13. When in doubt, use the sleeper hold.
  14. Jack Bauer can rip a keypad off a wall with his bare hands.
  15. Hey, where IS Chloe?
  16. Heller dead? Hell no!
  17. Jack is cursed. Everything he touches ends up dead. Wait...didn't Kim tell him that last year?

Anti-American Festival in New Haven

A cafeteria-style celebration of all things anti-American will take place May 1st on the New Haven Green. The lowlight of the event will be Marxist professor Howard Zinn.

Also on the agenda, a rejection of the sovereignty and laws of the USA.
International Workers’ Day includes the demands of immigrant workers for respect, fair treatment and rights for the undocumented. Immigrant rights’ groups will lead a march from the Green at 5 pm, followed by another hour of music.
The press release on the official site is fairly tame. The illegal alien part of the day has its own, much more confrontational poster with raised fists, and "No human being is illegal" in Spanish and Arabic, listing sponsorship by such luminaries as the International Socialist Organization, A.N.S.W.E.R., and MEChA Yale.

This is what ICE should consider a target-rich environment. Note to the illegal alien rights cult: no human being is illegal, but some actions are.

A Whale Blows in Brooklyn

The Gowanus Lounge updates a report on a whale sighting in Brooklyn. Not in the ocean off Coney Island, mind you, but in the infamous Gowanus Canal. Will wonders never cease.

Marine biologists are on the scene and say the whale appears to be in good health. They also say the whale will be hard to coax away from the Gowanus unless he/she actually wants to leave.

It's probably nothing to worry about unless the whale shows up in Park Slope pushing a double-wide stroller.

Previously: Breaking: Whale in the Gowanus Canal.

UPDATE: Sludgie died late Wednesday afternoon. WCBS-TV also points out that the whale was in Gowanus Bay, but not the canal itself.

Jew-hating sacks of shit, part 2

N. American Jewish Sites Bombed and Vandalized Over Passover
(IsraelNN.com) A Jewish center in the Canadian city of Montreal was targeted in a bomb attack, and a synagogue in San Francisco, California was defaced with swastikas during the first days of the Passover festival.

The bomb detonated at Montreal’s Ben Weider Jewish Community Center failed to cause any injuries or deaths, though workers were present at the time of the explosion. Damage was caused to the building.

Montreal police downplayed the incident, emphasizing that the bomb was “homemade” and saying they have not yet determined whether it was a hate crime....

San Francisco’s Emanu-El synagogue, the largest in the city, was defaced with swastikas over the Passover festival. Congregants discovered the vandalism Monday morning....

In the heavily-Jewish populated Bergen County region of New Jersey, swastikas and anti-Jewish graffiti were found engraved into the playground of a Wallington park on Passover eve....

Chicago police are investigating the Passover eve spraying of graffiti on the walls of a Chicago synagogue....

A rough drawing of a building labeled “Jewish library” with missiles headed toward it was found in a Princeton University common room. Also in the path of the missiles were stick figures labeled “little Jews.” A swastika graced the top of the sketch....

Click here to read the full story in the Princeton student paper....

The Daily Kos blog, one of the most popular American political websites, is featuring anti-Semitic graphic content since Thursday. The Daily Kos reportedly receives 600,000 visits a day, and between 14 million and 24 million visits per month. It is often used by politicians – including Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama and many others – for dissemination of their materials.

The content is featured in a 'diary' by one of the site's contributors, a Belgian graphic artist. It shows a composite of Minister Avigdor Lieberman's face and Adolf Hitler's face holding a skull painted with a Star of David, under the caption "Zionism was and remains a racist ideology."
Once again, Passover is pogrom season. I am a Jew. I will not be silent.

What do they really want?

A few days ago I blogged about Aura Bogado's tantrum on the GRC mailing list. Her farewell rant set off a flurry of replies. None states the mission of the left better than this comment from Richard Phelps, a member of Pacifica's KPFA Local Station Board:
We must keep our focus on our work in radio and elsewhere to educate and activate people to unite against the systems that create and perpetuate the ISMs that are oppressive. There is clearly an interrelationship between changing ourselves and changing the world. IMHO both are necessary and I think the struggle for the change of systems is the best place to change ourselves as we reject the societal teachings we are indoctrinated with as we grow up and live in this society. I have come to see individualism as the main impediment in our society. The Adam Smith mentality. "Me" before "we" and it is destroying our planet and us. I see it destroying Pacifica where I am deeply involved> "Turf" before "Mission."
Woe to us if we let people like this accomplish their goal. Who is going to implement and enforce the elimination of individualism? How will this be accomplished? How many have to die or be imprisoned for it to happen?
If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - forever.

Let's Go Mets!

How satisfying is it to be 3-0, see the World Series Champion Cardinals 0-3, and leave St. Louis with a sweep? We're picking up where we left off last season, with good pitching, solid defense, and some run-scoring.

No baseball tonight, but you can groove to your choice or early or late Dead from this date in history.

What I learned at the Carnival of Bauer

I struggled to learn anything between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Let's see how everyone else did.

  1. 24 in 24 felt shortchanged and only used 23 panels to summarize the episode.
  2. King Tom is not sure he's watching the right show but had a great suggestion for the chase at the Santa Monica pier.
  3. J. Wookie at Cake or Death is in awe of the terrorist whisperer but feels ambivalent about the snuke.
  4. Jeff Kouba at Truth vs. The Machine can identify all the recycled components of this season's patchwork, is concerned about Wayne Palmer's attire, and manages to invoke both the 1970 NBA finals and Bowie. His post is even longer than this paragraph.
  5. Yankz at Because its Sour had an epiphany regarding the real bad guy on Day 6.
  6. Amy Vernon at Remote Access is a day late, but not a dollar short. She also is apparently drawn to John Cage Tom Lennox. She knows many things, but not the name of Fayed's country.
  7. Kyle Brandt has seen one too many tribal councils, and possibly too many hours of Day 6.
  8. Steve at Magic Lamp was apparently watching a comedy show when he wrote his episode summary. He knows his universal television symbols, and what's most important in 24.
  9. Blogs4Bauer delivered the required dosage of liveblogging, Tivoblogging, and Point/Counterpoint.
  10. Adam Cohen at The Jack Sack has dusted off his college major, showing that he knows both presidential history and Al Pacino movies.
UPDATE: For those folks who say 24 has jumped the shark, take some advice from Kim:

The Great American (Idol) Songbook

I finally got what I've been wanting to see--standards on American Idol. Melinda and Lakisha knocked it out of the park as usual. There never has been any doubt it will be these two in the final. Sanjaya gave us a nice reading of "Dancing Cheek to Cheek," and Phil got stuck with a crooning, sweetened arrangement of "Night and Day" that completely took the shine off the song.

Back to pop next week, but it was nice to hear the songs I like for a change.

UPDATE: Jordin's turn with "On A Clear Day" was also star quality. Most poignant moment: Gina Glocksen singing "Smile" after being eliminated.

What I learned between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.

  1. Creepy Veep still has no neck.
  2. If Roosevelt did just fine from a wheelchair, all Wayne Palmer needs is a shot of adrenaline.
  3. The Biscuit gets to emcee the 25th Amendment hearing, but his nose doesn't whistle.
  4. The Vote happens at 9:19 p.m.
  5. It only takes nine minutes to forget that Jack is the star of the show.
  6. Milo looks tough in his black t-shirt, but Doyle looks downright bad in a long-sleeve black tee.
  7. Mole fever--you can't avoid it.
  8. Ten minutes goes by quiely in 24 time.
  9. No matter what the issue, it can always be resolved in under one hour.
  10. 24 ... minutes. It took 24 minutes for them to show Jack!
  11. Doyle has read the Quran, the Bible, the Upanishad. The techincal term for them is "data sets."
  12. In 24 world, the National Security Advisor is a Cabinet-level position. In the real world, it is not.
  13. When in doubt, commit perjury.
  14. Culver City to Santa Monica, 10 minutes. Including parking.
  15. In 24 world, nobody is on the Santa Monica pier at 9:40 p.m.
  16. How many short-handed goals does Gradenko have?
  17. 54 minutes: how long it took to see Chloe scowl.
  18. Gradenko suffering under the pier: Best. Lighting. Ever.
  19. heh heh...he said "federal agent" *drink*
  20. Adrenaline is bad so don't do it m'kay?
  21. Oh snap. Next week: there will be no pics of Kim during the liveblogging at Blogs4Bauer.

Pesach

The first full moon of spring is here, and with it, the celebration of redemption and rebirth. Tonight, Jews around the world celebrate the departure of the Jewish nation from Egypt, and the liberation from slavery. The tradition of Passover is handed down from generation to generation, year after year. It is also a significant time for my family; my son's brit mila was the morning before Passover.

May Hashem bless you as he blessed the nation of Israel, now and forever.

Jew-hating sacks of shit

No, I'm not talking about some of the folks who demonstrated on March 18th, although some of them certainly qualify.
A synagogue on Chicago's North Side may have been the target of a hate crime after vandals spray-painted derogatory messages on the building early Saturday, police said....
Someone wrote "Free Palestine" on the door in English as well as Arabic writings, said. Izzie Weinzweig, president of the congregation. "Death to Israel" and similar language was spray-painted on signs posted on the side of the building, he said.
Was it "Death to Israel" that gave the clue that the shul "may have been a target of a hate crime?" When was the last time anybody saw a "love crime?"

Happy Passover to you. Remember, they tried to kill us. We won. Let's eat.

UPDATE: A swastika on a synagogue in San Francisco. I really hate pogrom season.

Who brings you the news?

If you listen to WPKN's evening broadcast of Free Speech Radio News, it's Aura Bogado. Aura just had a meltdown on the Grassroots Radio Coalition mailing list. The fun started when somebody posted an email from Paul Krassner criticizing NPR for censoring a story about a donut shop. The part of the story not aired was about a contest involving a uniquely male way of stacking donuts. Resident wiseacre Scooter posted what was supposed to be a humorous piece about the subject matter. Chaos followed as people began unsubscribing from the list.

Aura posted her own "goodbye cruel world" message, which we quote here:
I don't know other people's reasons for wanting to get off this list recently - but I'll share why I am unsubscribing today. Recent discussion about censorship has given white males (or one white male in particular, at least) license to post completely misogynist and racist rants to the list (which aren't even funny). When I privately questioned why this type of bullshit was allowed on the GRC list, I was informed that since the issue of censorship is one that is close to the GRC mission, it basically trumped my concerns about deeply offensive posts. I guess issues of race and gender must not be close to the GRC mission, then.

I'm not surprised.

For those of you who don't know, Larry Flynt made a personal enemy out of me a couple of years ago - and subsequently featured grotesque cartoon images of me with slanderous articles to match in several issues of Hustler magazine, as well as some online. I learned then that the issue of "free speech" often turns into one about white males holding on every privilege they have and flexing it through imagery and text, no matter how offensive it is to women, queers and people of color. It seems that this GRC list is no different - and although I am not surprised, I am disappointed.

A year or so ago, people on this list also made derogatory and racist remarks about those of us who speak English as a second language. While on one hand I welcomed the opportunity to write about “accents” in broadcasting, I found some of the posts extremely offensive, racist and crass. This time around, I won’t spend any time helping white males figure out where they have gone completely wrong – I think it’s high time other white males do some work for once instead.

One last thing: the next time you wonder why more women, queers and people of color don’t attend your conferences, you might want to take all this recent bullshit into account. Why would we want to attend conferences whose mission favors white males’ “free speech” over our concerns?

Aura Bogado
Producer
Host: Free Speech Radio News
Spectacular, and something to keep in mind the next time you listen to "Free Screech Radio News." Those who didn't unsubscibe in a huff were left scratching their heads and wondering where the racist content was, other than in Aura's rant.

There is one thing I appreciate about leftist radicals and grievance mongers: whenever I feel a bit sorry for myself, they're always there to remind me how privileged I am. Unfortunately, this privilege I have seems to entail being used as a whipping boy in grievance theater performances by unstable bigots.
