When old buildings were new

I found an interesting digital collection of maps at the N.Y. Public Library. I have always been fascinated by maps, and to a lesser degree, aerial photographs and urban architecture. As I was browsing, I came across a collection titled "Classic Six:" New York City Apartment Building Living, 1880s-1910s.

Here are two adjacent buildings on the same block, the west side of Broadway between 136th & 137th Streets. The buildings went up in 1907, with rents from $480 (probably for the first floor behind the storefronts) to $1,500 (probably the two front corner apartments).

Leslie Court, 137th & Broadway.

The Saxonia, 136th & Broadway.

Here is an aerial view of the two buildings as they stand today. You can clearly make out the plan of the Leslie Court building in the photograph.

Lynne Stewart, Ward Churchill, and other festivities

Urban Infidel reports from a moonbat party in New York City:
We crashed Lynne Stewart's 'GLOAT PARTY' last night at the Judson Memorial Church downtown across from Washington Square Park. It was a rousing affair to say the least. It came as a complete surprise to the Lynne Stewart folks who were throwing a celebration called 'Ode to Joy and Struggle' thanking everyone for their support over the 4 years of her trial and also to 'unite for the struggle ahead'. 'Struggle' they say? As in 'Mein Kampf' maybe? As in 'jihad' too perhaps..?
The photos speak for themselves.

MF'n Grinches

From Seattle:

All Holiday trees at Sea-Tac Airport were removed this morning after several community member complaints. They say the trees don't represent all cultures and religions...The trees will not go up again...the airport policy on decorations will be reviewed after the holidays.
I don't celebrate Christmas, but this is beyond stupid. The Winter Solstice is a time to celebrate the return of sunlight, whether or not the trees are associated specifically with Christmas. I enjoy the decorations. The complaining community members would do well to impale themselves on a nice, sharp tree. Does anybody know who they are? Does anybody CAIR?

UPDATE: The person complaining was identified as "a Seattle rabbi with the Central Organization for Jewish Learning who hired an attorney and threatened to sue if the airport did not erect an eight-foot menorah...." I couldn't find an organization by that name, but I did find Chabad-Lubavitch Central Organization for Jewish Education. Chabad puts up those humongous menorahs on town greens. They're usually pretty cool, but somebody is not playing well with others.

UPDATE: CNN has more. Even Rabbi Elazar Bogomilsky, who made the original request, is upset. (It didn't help that he lawyered up.) The Port of Seattle apparently fears problems with identity politics and grievance mongering, and decided to remove all decorations.

The high school popularity contest continues

I got the latest email from Classmates.com today. I have had 23 visits to my profile.

Lifetime.

I registered about ten years ago.

The funniest part is viewing my profile. It lists my various communities, and there are a couple of stretches not associated with anything. They list the range of years and ask "Where were you?"? Believe me, if I could either remember or wanted to admit to it, I would have posted it.

I've Googled some of my high school classmates. The comparison is not pretty. Some of them are successful. Then there are others whose claim to fame lies within the grimy studio walls of an obscure noncommercial radio station. I may be an unpopular fuck-up, but I certainly enjoy doing radio at equally unpopular WPKN.

Don't forget to hit the tip jar.

Judenrein Venezuela

This is a translation of a column that appeared in El Diario de Caracas.

Anti Semitism in Venezuela: it is planned
Zionists, the destructive sect of radical Jews, are again impregnating the Jewish community with its animosity towards humanity. The genocide they executed in Palestine and Lebanon is similar to the Holocaust which the Nazis executed against them, and they will undergo another Holocaust because of the global hatred they are accumulating. If the Jews have charged the Nazis for their victims, they will have to pay Lebanon for their killings. The Jewish race is condemned to disappear, because if they continue marrying among themselves they will continue to degenerate; if they open their marriages they will racially dilute themselves, so they only recourse is to stay united, to provoke wars, and auto-genocides. ...

Israelis are lying when they say they are the favored people of God; on the contrary, because they are always at war and without their own land, it seems that they are marked for having destroyed Jesus Christ. We should reform the Bible which falsely refers to them as the chosen race by God, and we will act to stop them from manipulating the Jewish community. The United States is trapped by Zionists who control their economy and many critical positions in their government; and we must avoid that this critical situation takes place in Venezuela before they also ruin us, because they can possess any nationality, but first they act as Jews in whatever land they plant themselves....

Let's pay attention of the Israeli-Zionist associations, unions and federations which are conspiring to Venezuela to take over our finances, our industries, commerce, construction; which are infiltrating government positions and politics. Possibly, we'll have to expel them from the country, as other nations have done, which is the reason that Jews remain in a continuous state of stateless exodus, and it is why in 1948 they invaded Palestine, guided by Albion.
Did they miss any points?
  • Untermenschen? check.
  • Christ-killers? Check.
  • Control the economy? Check.

This is straight-up European antisemitism, coming soon to a South American socialist paradise near you. WAKE UP!!!

(Hat tip: Daniel at Venezuela News And Views)
