Interview with Bernie Worrell

It's difficult to describe Bernie Worrell's career without reciting a laundry list of musicians with whom he's toured and recorded. My first time seeing him was as a young, hip New Yorker at a Talking Heads concert. My most recent encounter was when he played Vibes with Steve Kimock's band. Bernie has been everywhere in between.

This Friday he'll bring his latest project, the Bernie Worrell Orchestra, to the Brooklyn Bowl for a night of funked-up standards. I caught up with Bernie for some talk about his new project and his illustrious musical past.

R.I.P. Nazmo

John Fredericks, better known as JF or Nazmo, has left the building. JF was a true eccentric, meaning he fit in perfectly at WPKN. Before health problems hampered his style, he rode his bicycle everywhere.

JF was a behind-the-scenes volunteer for many years before appearing on the air. He maintained the light fixtures around the studio and brought goodies in during fundraising, earning the title Pastry Pimp. When he finally did go on the air, He started as Tally during the pledge drives.

JF was a man of varied interests, and was an endless source of interesting conversation. He will be missed.
